To play music (for money) in Thailand you must have a work permit and non b visa. Online sites that provide information include thaivisa.com.

Work permits for musicians are valid for 6 months; for touring acts there are 2 week work permits available.

Hotels and resorts will take care of your work permit and visa when you sign a one year or 6 month contract.
